When Spyware Doctor is running, it appears in the tray area of the Taskbar (as shown below). Click on this tray icon to toggle between displaying or hiding Spyware Doctor. Right-click this icon for an additional function menu. When Spyware Doctor is set to run at startup, the main window is hidden until you click the tray icon.

Spyware Doctor shows the Status page by default. This page can also be viewed by clicking on the Status button on the left of Spyware Doctor's screen. It provides buttons to the most frequently used tasks (Start Scan, Immunize, OnGuard Activation/Deactivation), and provides details on the current system status and scan statistics, such as the current database version in use, the time of the last scan and its result summary.

The following is a description of Spyware Doctor's Status and Summary screen:

• Scan Computer Now - click this button to start a Full Scan. You can change the default action of this button to initiate a Quick or Custom scan, through the Settings screen. Alternatively, to select from any of the three types of scans, go to the Start Scan screen.

• Immunize Computer - click this go to the Immunizer screen, and immunize your PC against malicious ActiveX programs. If your computer is not immunized, there is an increased risk of it being infected by one of these ActiveX objects while you are browsing the Internet.

• OnGuard Protection is ON/OFF - click this to deactivate or activate the OnGuard protection feature, respectively. To modify the protection settings, click the OnGuard button on the left of Spyware Doctor's screen.

System Status

On the left of the System Status section are four Status indicators:

• Spyware Doctor version - If the version of Spyware Doctor installed on your computer is current, this field indicates Version is Current. If a newer version of Spyware Doctor is available, this displays New Version Available, which links to the Smart Update tool.

• Last Scan - This field indicates Last Scan X days ago, where X is the number of days since Spyware Doctor last scanned your computer.
• If a scan has not been conducted in over a week, this field displays a symbol.
• If a scan has not been conducted in over a month, this field displays a symbol.
• If or symbols are displayed, the Last Scan X days ago field becomes a link to the Start Scan screen.
• If a scan has never been conducted since installing the product, this field displays No Scan Run, which links to the System Scan screen.

• Last Update - This field indicates Last Update X days ago, where X is the number of days since a Smart Update last updated a Spyware Doctor component, such as the database.
• If an Update has not been received in over four days, this field displays a symbol.
• If an Update has not been received in over two weeks, this field displays a symbol.
• If or symbols are displayed, the Last Update X days ago field becomes a link to Smart Update.
• This field indicates No Update Run if a Smart Update has not yet been conducted, and links to the Smart Update tool.

• Subscription status - If your subscription is active, this field indicates Subscription Active until a Smart Update is run. After a Smart Update, this field indicates Subscription Expires in X days, where X indicates the number of days prior to your subscription expiry. If the number of days prior to your subscription expiry date exceeds 370, this field consistently indicates Subscription Active.
• If your subscription expires in less than one month, this field displays a symbol.
• If your subscription expires in less than two weeks, this field displays a symbol.
• If or symbols are displayed, the Subscription Expires in X days field becomes a link to the Registration screen.
• if your subscription has expired, this field displays Subscription Expired, which links to the Registration screen.
• If you have not yet registered or activated Spyware Doctor, this field displays Trial Subscription, which links to the Registration or Activation screens, respectively.

If all Status indicators display , the System Status heading indicates Normal. If any of these status indicators display either a or a , the System Status heading indicates Attention Required.

On the right of the System Status section are four other Status indicators:

• Product Version - the Spyware Doctor version number installed on your computer.

• Database Version - the number of the current Spyware Doctor database version installed.

• Intelli-Signatures - the total number of Intelli-signatures in the current Spyware Doctor database. Intelli-signatures are components of the database that uniquely identify items of malware, such as malicious files, registry keys, addresses of malicious sites, etc.

• Last Scan Results - the results of the last scan conducted, which can be:
• clean if no items were found in the last scan
• found X infection(s) where X is the number of items found in the last scan, or
• Interrupted if the scan was stopped before completion

Note: Updates to Spyware Doctor are made on a regular basis. Consequently, the images on this page may differ slightly from those that you see on your installation of Spyware Doctor.
