What are the minimum system requirements for installing PC Tools Internet Security

You will need the following minimum system requirements for installing PC Tools Internet Security:

How do I install and activate PC Tools Internet Security (Online)?

Once you have downloaded the setup file from our website: http://www.pctools.com/internet-security/download, double-click the file to launch the setup process. The Installation wizard will guide you through the easy setup steps.

Step 1.    Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) by clicking on the Agree button.

Step 2.     Enter the license code. You will be presented with a screen which prompts you for your license details. If you have already purchased PC Tools Internet Security, then enter your license details exactly as sent to you in your confirmation e-mail. You may copy the license from your e-mail and paste into the license code field by clicking the Paste License button. Click Register to register your software license.

Step 3.     Select one of these installation options: Easy Install or Custom Install.

                     Easy Install– this is the default installation process with pre-configured parameters to install the product on your PC easily.

                     Custom Install– this is the customized installation process by which you can define the installation location for the product on your PC. 

Step 4.      Follow the easy steps in the Installation Wizard. The Wizard guides you through the rest of the installation process. After successful installation, PC Tools Internet Security will prompt you to begin a scan of your computer immediately.

How do I convert my trial version of  PC Tools Internet Security  to the full version (Online)?

Purchasing a license

Step 1.     Click the Register button.

Step 2.     Click the Purchase Online on the bottom panel. This will take you to the Purchase page on PC Tools’ website.

Step 3.     Go directly to the PC Tools website (http://www.pctools.com/internet-security/purchase/) to purchase a license.

Registering (I’ve already purchased a license)

Once you have purchased your license, click the Register button on the bottom panel to enter your license name and license code. Click Register within this screen to send your details for validation.

How do I install and activate PC Tools Internet Security (Retail)?

Step 1.     Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) by clicking on the Agree button.

Step 2.      Enter the license code. You will be presented with a screen which prompts you for your license details. Enter your name, e-mail address and activation code (exactly as printed in the back sleeve of your CD).

Step 3.       Select one of these installation options: Easy Install or Custom Install.

                     Easy Install– this is the default installation process with pre-configured parameters to install the product on your PC easily.

                     Custom Install– this is the customized installation process by which you can define the installation location for the product on your PC

Step 4.       Click Next. Your details will be sent for validation. Once validation is complete, the installation process will proceed to the completion stage. After successful installation, PC Tools Internet Security  will prompt you to begin a scan of  your computer immediately.

 

To Open the application from your computer

Step 1.      Go to All Programs.

Step 2.      Click PC Tools Security.

Step 3.      Click PC Tools Internet Security.

Alternatively, you may simply double-click the icon on desktop or system tray ((if you configured these actions during setup).

 

Am I able to install PC Tools Internet Security even if my computer is heavily infected ?

Yes, PC Tools Internet Security can be installed even on a heavily infected computer. PC Tools Internet Security provides additional protection during the install process to ensure that it is successfully installed. We recommend that you run a scan immediately upon installation to clean your computer.

Getting Started

I've installed and registered PC Tools Internet Security. What do I do next?

Step 1.      Become familiar with the Home screen.

The Home screen is displayed whenever you first open PC Tools Internet Security. It provides immediate access to its main functions along with the summary and status of scans performed, threats detected, protection profile and also subscription details.

The Home screen is divided into these sections:

 

Top Navigation Panel (Tabs)

                     Home - selecting the Home tab will display the product Home screen.

                     IntelliGuard - this tab displays the set of IntelliGuard tools which offer protection from threats in real-time.

                     Settings - this tab displays the Settings screen where you can customize PC Tools Internet Security's settings according to your protection and security requirements.

                     Support - this tab presents you with a set of Support options to help you locate the information and help you require to use the product.

                     Start Scan - this tab presents you with the option to perform one of three scans: Full Scan, Intelli-Scan, and Custom Scan.

 

Protection Summary

The Protection summary provides you with a summary of your system's protection:

                     Number of Threats Detected

                     Number of Scans Performed

                     Number of Items Scanned

                     Number of Database Updates

                     Number of Days left for Subscription Expiry

                     Last Smart Update

                     Last Scan performed on your computer

  • Protection Status
  • Displays the protection status on the basis of various settings and tools being adjusted for your computer. You can turn on or off the following major protection features from the Home screen:

                         IntelliGuard Protection - toggle the button to turn on or off IntelliGuard real time monitoring

                         AntiSpam Protection - toggle the button to turn on or off the AntiSpam component

                         Firewall Protection - toggle the button to turn on or off the Firewall

                         Start Scan Now - clicking the Start Scan Now button  starts an Intelli-Scan of your system immediately. An Intelli-Scan is a scan of applications, startup files and other locations where infections are most commonly found.

    Step 2.    Run Smart Update

    Click the Smart Update button in the bottom navigation bar to run Smart Update to download the latest updates to the product. By default, Smart Update will prompt you whenever there are updates to the product.

    Step 3.    Run a Full Scan

    1.              Select the Start Scan Now tab in the top navigation panel.

    2.              Click the Start button under Full Scan.

    3.              When the scan is complete, PC Tools Internet Security will list any problems it found during the scan. The threat level of each problem is also indicated.

    4.              Click Fix Selected to remove the problems. You may selectively remove problems by checking or unchecking items in this list.

    Step 4.    Recommended: Schedule a weekly scan

    Periodic scans will help keep your system protected.

    Step 1      Select the Settings tab in the top navigation panel.

    Step 2.      Click  the Scheduled Tasks button in the left navigation panel.

    Step 3.      Click the Add button to add a scanning task.

    Step 4.      Click the Next button on the Schedule Wizard to view the options to be added to the wizard.

    Select from the following options and click the Next button.

    i)       Intelli-Scan of this computer

    ii)     Full scan of this computer

    iii)   Custom Scan of this computer

    iv)    Search for Updates

    v)      Search and Download Updates

    Step 5.      Select the frequency for performing the selected task. Click Next.

    Step 6.     Select the time and days you want the selected task to run on your computer. Click Next.

    Your scheduled task will be displayed on the next screen.

    Step 7.    Click the Finish button to add the displayed task to the scheduler.

    How do I know how long a scan will take on my PC?

    The progress bar is the best measure of how long a scan will take on your PC

    For instance, if PC Tools Internet Security is approximately 75% of the way through all its scans, the progress bar will show 75%. Additionally, there is a “Time Remaining” estimator so you know how long the remaining scan process should take.

    How do I schedule a custom scan on my computer?

    To schedule a custom scan on your computer

    Step 1.      Select the Settings tab in the top navigation panel.

    Step 2.      Click  the Scheduled Tasks button in the left navigation panel.

    Step 3.      Click the Add button to add a scanning task.

    Step 4.     Click the Next button on the Schedule Wizard to view the options to be added to the wizard.

    Select from the following options and click the Next button.

                         Intelli-Scan of this computer

                         Full scan of this computer

                         Custom Scan of this computer

                         Search for Updates

                         Search and Download Updates

    Step 5.       Select the frequency for performing the selected task. Click Next.

    Step 6.       Select the time and days you want the selected task to run on your computer. Click Next.

    Your scheduled task will be displayed on the next screen.

    Step 7.      Click the Finish button to add the displayed task to the scheduler.

    What is IntelliGuard and how do I use it?

    IntelliGuard is PC Tools Internet Security's real-time protection feature. It consists of a set of tools which monitor your system in real-time to help keep your system safe from threats.

    Step 1.      Select the IntelliGuard tab in  the top navigation panel to view a list of all the IntelliGuard tools.

    Step 2.       Activate / deactivate as many tools as you like.

    The following IntelliGuard tools are available in PC Tools Internet Security:

    • Behavior Guard: Detects potentially malicious files and processes exhibiting suspicious behavior on your system, and prevents them from harming your system.

    • Cookie Guard: Monitors web browsers for potentially malicious tracking and advertising cookies and removes them automatically.

    • Download Guard: Defends against Zero-Day viruses, spyware, worms, trojans and other malware using cloud based verification of downloads from common network facing applications, such as Internet browsers.

    • E-mail Guard: Scans and disinfects malicious attachments in your incoming and outgoing e-mail messages.

    • File Guard: Monitors your system for any malicious files and prevents them from being accessed. Also blocks attempts to open malicious  attachments in Microsoft Outlook and other e-mail clients. Includes Startup Guard which provides real-time protection against malicious applications that are set to run automatically on your system when Windows starts up and at any time during normal system operations.

    • Network Guard: Guards against malicious changes to your network settings which can include unsolicited changes to your Windows Hosts file, Windows Messenger service, Layered Service Provider (LSP) and Domain Name System (DNS).

    • Rootkit Guard: Detects, repairs and blocks rootkits and other malicious hidden processes from running on your system. Rootkits are a type of virus technology that can be used to hide threats on a compromised system.

    • Site Guard: Monitors and blocks access to potentially malicious websites. Site Guard works with most  web-enabled programs on your computer including  Browsers, Instant Messaging clients and E-mail clients.

    How do I set PC Tools Internet Security for Maximum Protection?

    Default settings for PC Tools Internet Security are designed to offer you the best protection while keeping system resources low to reduce their interference with your work or usage of your system.

    Some of these optimal settings are for that reason not set as default. However for optimal protection we recommend the following:

    Change the settings slider bar to Protection. This setting will enable additional protection to help detect and prevent malware. Note that this setting uses more system resources than the Balanced or Performance mode settings.

    These settings are found under Settings > Performance.

    How do I configure the AntiSpam Component?

    The AntiSpam component of PC Tools Internet Security is an easy-to-use spam filter designed to keep your mailbox free from spam and unsolicited junk mail.

    AntiSpam options allow you to configure the way in which e-mails you receive are identified as either legitimate messages or spam. AntiSpam is enabled by default and set for optimal protection.

    AntiSpam settings include filtering options to configure:

    1        Allow and Block lists -  Allow and Block lists based on e-mails and IP addresses.

    2        Message Tagging - Tagging options to further identify spam.

    How do I configure the AntiSpam Toolbar?

    The AntiSpam toolbar is an easy-to-use plugin which integrates seamlessly with your mail client to keep your Inbox safe from spam mail, aid you in effectively categorizing and prioritizing your mail, and protect your computer from phishing and e-mail threats.

    When you open your mail client for the first time after installing PC Tools Internet Security, the AntiSpam toolbar setup wizard is displayed. Alternately, you can do the following:

    Step 1.     Click All Programs >  PC Tools Internet Security > AntiSpam Toolbar to begin setup.

    Step 2.     The wizard guides you through the setup process.

    Step 4.     Once setup is complete, open your Mail Client. The Configuration Wizard is displayed.

    Step 5.     Follow the stages in the Configuration Wizard to you export your address book, safe and blocked senders lists, configure action to take when spam is detected and a range of options to customize the toolbar in a manner that it is most effective as a filter for you.

    Step 6.    To open, click All Programs > PC Tools Security > AntiSpam Toolbar.

    How do I configure the Firewall component?

    PC Tools Internet Security's Firewall is an easy-to-use personal firewall for Windows that helps protect your privacy by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer through a network or the Internet.

    Firewall is enabled by default. Whenever an application tries to connect to any network or the Internet, Firewall will display a pop-up notification which will let you allow or block the connection.

    You may activate or deactivate Firewall from the Home Screen by toggling the ON/OFF button.

    You can customize the settings for the Firewall component by clicking on Settings > Firewall.

    When Firewall is activated, you will be prompted each time a new network or an unknown application is detected.

                         For networks, assigning a profile such as Trusted or Untrusted will enable Firewall to apply rules to the network to allow access accordingly.

                         For applications, you can choose to allow or block access or Prompt for Permissions.

                         Firewall's Activity page provides information about incoming and outgoing traffic.

    EXPERT USER - For expert users, the Firewall Settings offer a range of options to customize Firewall's behavior.

     

    What does the Report Card tell me?

    Click the Report Card button in the bottom navigation panel to access this screen.

    The Report Card Button is used to access the security report card which provides a summary of the total number of scans performed in the last 30 days. 

    It also presents statistical information on Low, Medium and High threats generated by scans along with the number of any viruses detected.
