Spyware Doctor 3.8 prescribes the cure for complex online threats

Major new technology advancements create the fastest and most effective version of PC Tools' award-winning Spyware Doctor

SAN FRANCISCO, April 24, 2006 - PC Tools today announced the availability of Spyware Doctor 3.8, the most comprehensive and effective version to date of the award-winning anti-spyware solution.

The latest version introduces a number of new and innovative technologies, including the patent-pending Spider Scanning Technology, which has been implemented into Spyware Doctor's scanning engine. The technology significantly reduces scanning time, in some cases by 25 percent, while also detecting a higher number of threats.

Also included in version 3.8 is a new rootkit scanning ability, which provides an added layer of protection against rootkits and other complex threats. With Spyware Doctor's existing KD (kernel delete) and hidden process detection technologies, this latest version now offers users a complete and comprehensive solution to detect and remove complex threats, including rootkits.

Spyware Doctor 3.8 has also developed the KL (Kernel Level) Process Killer technology that locates and eliminates malicious processes operating at the Windows kernel level that can often escape detection. This means that Spyware Doctor now has the ability to kill troublesome processes that hide deep within the computer, at the kernel level, that many less sophisticated anti-spyware programs might miss.

Other features included in the latest version include:

  • Alternate Data Streams (ADS) detection and removal capabilities, which detect dangerous threats that often hide themselves in attachments or seemingly harmless files (such as Word or Excel files).
  • Improved user interface features, including a new system status area where consumers can be alerted to which parts of Spyware Doctor require attention, such as new smart updates available for download.
