Swine Flu Themed Attacks
Cybercriminals are using the concern over the swine flu to try to break into your computer. Emails titled "Are you worried about flu outbreak?" are being used to lure people into clicking on links or opening attachments which can, for example, download malware onto your PC, potentially giving cyber-criminals access to your personal information such as usernames and passwords.
Other malicious subject lines include:
- "Mexico on edge as reports of swine flu cases climb"
- "Global panic as swine flu spreads to Europe"
- "US declares emergency as Mexico flu death toll rises"
There are new scams developing by the minute. Spam headlines on Swine Flu are also taking a celebrity angle, including:
- "Swine flu in Hollywood!"
- "Madonna caught swine flu!"
- "Salma Hayek caught swine flu!"
As people look for new information, it's important to tell them that cyber-criminals are using this opportunity to find more victims.
