Protection Software: Browser Defender Update Service uses up CPU

Symptoms:

  • When you check the Windows Task Manager, the “bdtupdateservice.exe” process uses a lot of CPU .
  • System freezes up after installing the latest PC Tools Security Software.


Causes:

  • The “bdtupdateservice.exe” process runs constantly in the background checking for updates.
  • Low memory.


Products Affected:

PC Tools Internet Security / Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus / Spyware Doctor


Troubleshooting:

1. Select “Start” from Windows (you can also press "WIN" + "R" on your keyboard to launch the "Run" box)

2. Select “Run”

3. Type the following in to the "Run" box and press "OK"

Services.msc

4. Locate “Browser Defender Update Service” and double-click

 

5. Set the Startup Type to “Disabled”

6. Click “Apply”

7. Restart your system


Note:

We are aware of this issue and fix will be included in a future release of PC Tools Protection Software due to be released shortly.
