Young kids adopting cyber crime

Cyber crooks as young as 12 are reportedly wrecking havoc in cyber space and causing thousands worth of damage, new reports say.

Internet security experts are warning of this crop of cyber crooks that begin by phishing for identities on social networking sites such as Facebook before moving on to rob online accounts, according to metro.co.uk.

Some of the cyber crooks boast of their antics online and even share information on how they exposed users to online threats, which is said to be just another front for them to scam others eager to learn their skills.

"One 12-year-old kid ran a huge forum with thousands of users sharing tips on stealing credit card details and bank details," says internet security expert Chris Boyd of FaceTime.

"There's now a whole sub-industry where people will supply these kids with custom-made tools to create phishing pages to steal bank details."

A Get Safe Online study published recently showed that people in the UK are more afraid of online crime than they are of burglary.
