Would-be phishers targeted by scam
A kit which purportedly enabled phishers to run scams has been exposed as a con to hoodwink would-be criminals, it has been reported.
The contained site code, templates for emails and a raft of other hacking tools for phishers to use, Netcraft reports.
However, in fact, the kit, which is available on a site managed by a team of fraudsters from Morocco called Mr Brain, also featured a backdoor which stole the details of those using it.
The details of the users were then sent to an email account used by Mr Brain.
Netscape explained:" Most fraudsters are unlikely to notice this level of obfuscation and will assume the script is working normally, as they will also receive a copy of any emails produced by the script."
The kit included phishing kits for a number of targets including eBay, Bank of America, HSBC and PayPal.
