Windows 7 will be harder for hackers to crack

Microsoft's Security Science team has revealed that hackers will find it even harder to compromise the online security of consumers whose computers will be running the upcoming Windows 7.

Thanks to a new feature known as safe unlinking, cyber crooks will face a bigger barrier if they try to exploit bugs within the operating system to gain access to users' machines.

According to Peter Beck, "this simple check blocks the most common exploit technique for pool overruns".

He added that "it doesn't mean pool overruns are impossible to exploit, but it significantly increases the work for an attacker".

Microsoft decided to explore this security measure because "the proportion of security bulletins affecting the Windows kernel has been increasing, from under five per cent in 2007 to just over ten per cent in 2008".

Windows 7 will also offer users better internet security by eliminating the requirement for AutoRun except when CDs or DVDs are involved to protect against the increasing threat of AutoRun malware.
