Wikipedia pages hosted ILOVEYOU virus
One of the most popular information resources on the internet was this week targeted by hackers seeking to infect users with a computer virus, it has been revealed.
According to a report from Wikinews, two users were involved in adding the infamous ILOVEYOU virus, aka the LoveLetter virus, to pages on Wikipedia.
The hackers inserted the malicious code on a number of pages, including Wikipedia's Sandbox page, which is used for testing code.
However, no computers have yet been reported infected after the brilliantly named site administrator Scientizzle spotted the breach when an anti-virus application flagged up the infected files.
The program blocked the hackers from using the site and began to revert the amended pages to their original form.
Scientizzle said: "I went further and deleted the contributions of these editors where I could in the hopes of preventing follow-up attacks, copycat actions, and random editors stumbling into viral traps whilst walking through a page history."
