White House cyber security office proposed
A cyber security office dealing with hackers and cyber crooks will be created by US president-elect Barack Obama, if proposals for the creation of such an institution are adopted.
A panel of internet security experts made of the private sector and government experts is proposing the creation of the new White House office to protect cyberspace from hackers, thieves and foreign agents.
If adopted, the proposals by the Commission on Cybersecurity, which are being made public today will play an important role in shaping the cyber security strategy for the new presidency.
It is believed that most of the proposals from the panel may be adopted as some of its members, such as former White House official Paul Kurtz and Obama's technology advisors, are also working for his presidential transition team.
Obama is already very familiar with hackers and their online threats, having been a victim when his campaign website and that of Republican rival John McCain were infiltrated by cyber crooks.
