Website owners should be 'weary of malware attacks'
Web browsers are often warned of the danger of visiting websites and downloading files that contain malware and viruses.
Anti-virus software and caution are a pre-requisite for most internet users.
Firefox and Google often mark out websites that are deemed a threat because they contain infected web pages.
However, it is not just the end user which falls victim to this process, those hosting web services and website owners themselves can suffer if their sites are blacklisted.
According to the 2009 Sophos Security Threat Report, a webpage is infected by malicious code every 4.5 seconds, making the threat of virus attacks just as problematic for businesses as it is to individual users.
According to Security Watch, the problem is exacerbated by the fact that "people are building websites who lack the technical knowledge to clean websites".
Meanwhile, new research by Finjan shows that cybercriminals are paying people to infect computers with malware allowing them to access files and personal details stored on them.
