Web browsers 'are easy spyware victims'
It is relatively easy for web browsers to allow spyware to infiltrate a computer system, it has been claimed.
A post on Djelite's Weblog explains that browsers can trigger spyware which has previously lain dormant.
"Web browsers are easy victims as some spyware just sits and does not really do anything," Djelite writes.
But when a secure website is accessed "the spyware goes to work" and begins to snoop the user's computer for important details.
The blog post explains that spyware is typically malicious and aims to report information back to the person from whom it originated.
This could include specific information entered by the computer's owner, or more general reports of the system's activity.
Search engine optimisation specialist Bhupendra Vasaikar previously recommended anti-malware software for those running an internet business.
The expert explained that, without such protection, a virus could wipe out details of customers or compromise sensitive data held on file.
