Web "a haven for organised crime"
The international threat of online terrorism needs to be addressed as the web is becoming a "haven" for organised crime, a collection of internet experts have warned.
At a recent discussion of cybercrime in London, industry leaders warned that the threat of online terrorism or other criminal activity is very real, online resource the New Criminologist stated.
"Cyber experts say hundreds of thousands of them bombard personal computers every day. Far from being a mere nuisance, these bugs threaten modern life," the article asserted.
Reporter Mandy Clark urged users to stay online but to remain vigilant against the various security threats the internet poses.
She added that people should keep their anti-virus software up to date to protect themselves.
Online computer safety resource Get Safe Online urges Britons to use a firewall alongside their anti-virus software in order to remain secure while browsing the web.
It also suggests people regularly scan their machines for spyware threats and do not open unsolicited emails.
