Watch out for 'breaking news' email scams, users warned
Internet users have been warned to watch out for an email forward which arrives in the form of a news headline.
The email, which has been christened the 'tabloid scam' has been described as 'scary' and takes control of machines which are then used to carry out scams and send phishing emails, reports FW Daily News.
There is no breaking news as the email suggests and internet users have been advised to avoid clicking on this email to cut out the risk of being exposed to online threats.
The newspaper is also warning individuals to beware of another scam which is spreading in the US known as the dating scam.
The scam involves users being asked to send money to seemingly distressed individuals stuck in a far off destination in distress, which begins with emails and can escalate to phone calls too.
According to online security expert Raghu Raman of Mahindra Special Services Group, India, the best defence against such scams lies in stamping out ignorance among consumers.
