Warning over mobile virus threats
Indian technology fans have been warned the threat of viruses has now spread to their mobile phones as well as their PCs.
News resource IBN Live suggested that as more people take precautions to protect their computers, cybercriminals have begun to target mobile phones as they seek to spread malware and profit from stolen information.
Malware creators have been sending multimedia messages with "luring" titles which, when opened, unleash a virus.
The messages "install malware on your phone and cause extensive damage, ranging from corrupting your phone to transmitting personal information to a remote repository", the news resource warned.
It noted that many experts feel user awareness is vital in protecting consumers from such threats.
Recently, India's Economic Times reported that mobile phone operators hope for an increase in the number of consumers using their phones to access the web.
However, such a boost to mobile use could cause security and protection to become even more important issues for the industry, it added.
