Virus attacks "costly" for firms
A virus is a computer programme that has been specifically created to change the way a computer functions, without the permission - and sometimes the knowledge - of the user, an online publication has warned.
Malware news source ZDNet noted that anti-virus software is able to identify and remove these malicious programmes with no harm to the system.
It is vital that businesses use anti-virus software to protect their machines as virus infection can lead to numerous costly and dangerous problems, it continued.
Viruses can attack a system in a number of ways, through email, the internet, via instant messaging or through plug-in devices like mp3 players and memory-sticks, the website explained.
According to Get Safe Online, businesses need to protect themselves from such online threats creating a good business security plan.
It warns that they must understand their legal obligations under Data Protection Act and ensure hackers cannot steal information.
