Users 'must monitor mobile security'
Although viruses have not yet been seen on mobile handsets, an expert has warned that users should make themselves aware of the potential security threats, an expert has warned.
Tony Neate, managing director of UK government initiative Get Safe Online, said that many people are not aware of the issues which could become a security threat for mobile phones.
He suggested that even though malware threats are not yet an issue for handsets, people must remain aware of con artists using the devices to attack a user.
"It's not widespread and I really don't want to scaremonger but these possibilities are out there and consumers need to be aware of them," Mr Neate urged.
A recent piece of research conducted by online anti-malware site Virus Bulletin revealed that fewer than 20 per cent of visitors to the site had anti-malware programs on their mobiles.
It also found that more than 70 per cent of those with smartphones - which would be more susceptible to such security risks - have anti-virus software.
