US judge rules against spyware scamster
A US federal judge has issued an injunction against a man who developed spyware that helped unscrupulous groups infect millions of computers worldwide, it has emerged.
The judge granted the request from the Federal Trade Commission, Government Technology reports, with the man now being barred from distributing malicious code that can affect users' computers, such as spyware, adware, viruses and trojans.
"The judgement also requires Taylor to fully disclose the name and function of all software he installs on consumers' computers in the future and to provide consumers with the option to cancel the installation after viewing the disclosure," the website reports.
He has also been ordered to give up the money he personally made from the scam, which amounted to almost $4,600 (£2,285).
FederalTimes.com reports that federal computer networks in the US are increasingly under attack from malware, painting a picture of a "silent war" between harmful software and the networks, firewalls and systems used to protect them.
