US firms urged not to cut security spending
As US firms tighten their spending amid fears of a recession, one expert has urged them not to cut back on IT security.
Lyne Bourque, writing for online resource EnterpriseITPlanet.com, called upon businesses to protect their machines from online threats, no matter how little they use technology.
There is an increased risk in the form of mobile operating systems such as phone handsets and Blackberrys, she continued.
"While employing these systems becomes easier due to an existing familiarity, it does make them susceptible to many of the same viruses, Trojans and other nasties that infect regular Windows systems," Ms Bourque stated.
If security is incorporated into everyone's day-to-day activities, a firm's IT environment can be made extra safe, she added.
Last year, United States attorney Catherine L Hanaway commented that viruses can severely damage America's economy.
She made her statement as Richard C Honour, from the Washington State, pleaded guilty to transmitting a web virus.
