Unified Threat Management solution launched
WatchGuard Technologies has this week launched a new Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution.
The global provider of network security solutions announced yesterday (June 30th) that it has attempted to take UTM "to the next level of performance" with its Extensible Threat Management (XTM) and connectivity solutions.
XTM has been designed to provide a network security solution that is capable of extending or adding on to.
The idea is that it will adapt to "dynamic network environments" and protect them against as yet unknown internet threats.
Joe Wang, chief executive of WatchGuard Technologies, observed that this will be very beneficial for businesses for several reasons.
He explained: "With the increase of mobility, consumer and Web 2.0 applications moving into the enterprise, security of the network perimeter is at an inflection point, and how security is viewed, architected and managed is quickly changing.
"As a pioneer and award-winning innovator of UTM technologies and solutions, WatchGuard is taking UTM to its next level with our XTM vision and technology direction."
Industry analyst firm IDC coined the term UTM in 2004 as a way to describe integrated network appliances which perform intrusion detection/prevention, firewall and gateway anti-virus services.
