UK law firms ignorant on security
UK legal firms are now in the spotlight following revelations that some 24 per cent have misplaced at least one mobile device containing confidential documents.
According to research from IT security firm Credant Technologies, lawyers are naïve when it comes to security and over 90 per cent believe passwords are enough to keep them protected from online threats.
More worryingly, four per cent do not use any security whatsoever in spite of their handling sensitive personal data such as case-notes, contracts and client details, the research shows.
Just a small percentage, 13 per cent, of law firms are security savvy enough to carry out data encryption, even though 37 per cent believe that hackers or cyber crooks could easily break into their devices if they were misplaced.
Some 100 legal firms across the UK were surveyed in the research aimed at ascertaining the sector's attitude towards security, mobile devices and end-point protection.
Incidents of confidential data losses due to lost mobile devices have plagued government departments for months.
