UK consumers being warned to stay safe online
Internet users and businesses in the UK are being advised to be vigilant in order to avoid having their online security compromised by cyber crooks that seem to be intensifying their illicit activities.
The Office of Fair Trading and Get Safe Online are collaborating in the initiative, which has placed phishing, bogus lotteries and advance fee scams on top of their concerns list.
According to Tony Neate, the managing director of Get Safe Online, internet users should use their common sense when on the web to avoid being exposed to online threats.
"At the moment, many of us will be particularly worried about our financial security and we shouldn't be surprised to see online scammers trying to turn this to their advantage," he said.
"Don't let this deter you from using the internet, however - as long as you make sure you know the warning signs to look out for and how to protect your computer properly."
Yesterday (February 10th) marked Safe Internet Day, which was held to promote good and safe practices online.
