UFO hacker pushing for UK jail time
Self-confessed Nasa hacker Gary McKinnon has lost his appeal at the European Court of Human Rights against extradition to the UK and now his lawyers are pushing for a UK jail term, reports say.
McKinnon is charged with causing millions of dollars worth of damage on US government websites, including that of Nasa, and claims he carried out the activities because he was searching for information on UFOs.
The appeal to the European court was his last hope of remaining in the UK and his solicitors have now lodged a formal request via Home Secretary Jacqui Smith pushing for him to serve his term in the UK.
"We have requested that the home secretary obtain an assurance from the United States government that Mr McKinnon be returned to the UK immediately on receiving a sentence in the US, should he be extradited," stated solicitor Karen Todner.
He may spend up to 60 years in jail if found guilty of the charges.
