Twitter users warned not to fall for scam promising more followers
Twitter users eager to increase the number of people following their tweets have been warned to watch out for a phishing scam that has the potential to not only compromise their online security, but also steal their details, it has emerged.
Members of the micro-blogging site are being targeted by a new scam bearing the message: "OMG I just got over 1,000 followers today from http://twittercut.com", reports techcrunch.com.
According to the site, Twitter members should avoid responding to the message because clicking the link contained therein redirects people to a website that requests log in details.
Potential victims are informed on the rogue site about the prospect of increasing the number of their followers by filling out a form and getting "started right away".
Techcrunch.com has urged internet users not to fall for the ploy and warned that "we'll be seeing more of these. Again, do not give this site your Twitter info".
Members of the social networking site were last week subjected to a phishing attack in which several accounts were compromised to be used as launch pads for attacking other accounts on the forum.
