Twitter on receiving end of 17-year-old hacker
The Easter break saw micro-blogging website Twitter subjected to online security breaches, which have been attributed to a 17-year-old hacker from Brooklyn, New York, it has emerged.
Mikeyy Mooney has admitted to BNO News that he is behind the StalkDaily cross-site scripting internet security breach, which left Twitter reeling with wave after wave of attacks.
"I am the person who coded the XSS which then acted as a worm when it auto-updated a user's profile and status, which then infected other users who viewed their profile," he told the organisation.
Admitting that he "did this out of boredom", he explained that he usually likes to "find vulnerabilities within websites and try not to cause too much damage".
The worm, he said, was created "to give the developers an insight on the problem" while also creating an opportunity for him to promote himself on his website.
Despite Twitter acting quickly to sort out the problems after each attack, the hackers negated their efforts by launching another attack, leaving users warning each other of the assaults.
