Twitter in the spotlight again with high-profile hack

The internet security of high-profile individuals and organisations on micro-blogging site Twitter has been thrown into the spotlight once more with the hacking of an account belonging to the New York Times.

A cyber crook managed to hack in to a fashion blog with more than 500,000 followers that is run by the newspaper and posted a message directing readers to follow what appears to be a link to a pornography site.

The page of the blog, dubbed The Moment, was inaccessible to the organisation for a couple of hours but they managed to wrestle it back from the crooks and posted a message apologising to followers.
"In case that spam wasn't obvious enough - Yes, we were hacked! What a lousy way to thank our half million followers. Sorry everybody!" said the twitter message posted by The Moment.

Members of the social networking forum were recently warned to be careful about what personal details they post on the site after a game emerged urging members to post details such as the name of their pet and street they lived on.
