Trojans make up 75 per cent of malware
Trojans make up almost three quarters of all malicious code on the internet, it has been claimed.
According to new research by Panda Security, between April and June of this year, close to 75 per cent of all malware circulating on the internet was in the form of Trojans.
The firm's PandaLab division also recorded a six per cent drop in the amount of spyware discovered on the internet is the second quarter of 2009.
However, during the same period, the amount of adware increased, accounting for 16 per cent of the total.
The company found that the Trojan Downloader.MDW was responsible for the most infections between April and June. The malware is designed to open a computers floodgates and allow for multiple viruses and Trojans to be installed on the infected system.
According to Symantec's MessageLabs, one in 78 links sent via instant messaging services redirects users to websites containing malware.
