Trojans are the most prolific web threat
Trojans are the most ubiquitous internet security threat, according to new research.
A new study by BitDefender shows that non-replicating malware in the form of Trojans were the number one internet infection spread via websites last month.
The firm also claimed that Trojan.Clicker.CM was the most prolific of all Trojans during June, followed by Trojan.AutorunINF.Gen.
The latter is a widespread family of malware which uses Autorun files on removable storage devices, such as pen drives, to hack into a users' computer.
Meanwhile, recent research by Trend Micro shows that data stealing malware, including Trojans, is on the increase.
"Virtually anyone with a computer and internet access can wreak havoc," said Paul Ferguson, senior threat researcher at the firm
He warned that installing anti-virus software was of vital importance to smaller businesses, despite their limited IT budgets and fewer resources.
The company also found that the majority of malware attacks carried out over the internet are used to compromise internet security or carry out identity theft.
