Top ten IT security threats of the future unveiled
A new report has highlighted the top ten internet security threats facing web users, with cybercrime topping the list.
The study from the Information Security Forum (ISF) also highlighted weaknesses in infrastructure, tougher regulations, pressures of offshoring, eroding network boundaries and mobile malware as factors which will threaten online security over the next two years.
Vulnerabilities in Web 2.0, espionage, insecure user-driven development and changing cultures were also cited as likely to cause problems.
"Many of the threats in 2011 will be familiar ones that are evolving and will present new and sophisticated attacks to compliment tried and tested techniques," said Jason Creasey, head of research at the ISF.
He added that the economic crisis has contributed to the rising threat of online criminal activity as increasing staff turnover and dissatisfaction fuel insider threats.
It was recently reported by Sophos that cybercriminals are increasingly attacking social networking sites with phishing or malware.
