Tibetan groups hit with online Trojan
The free-Tibet movement has been targeted by malware creators, it has emerged.
Emails which claim to be from an organisation called the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation have been sent to a number of inboxes.
The messages condemn the violence and encourage the recipient to open an attachment which then launches a number of Trojans onto their machine, VNUnet reports.
Security expert Martin van Horenbeeck has been working with Tibetan groups to monitor such attacks and told the BBC he has seen the number sent triple this month following the outbreaks of violence.
BBC reporter Rory Cellan-Jones commented: "Tibet protest groups have been in touch to say they are under attack, with emails arriving containing attachments that are designed to infect or take over their computer."
Recently, the Times described Trojan threats as being a "nasty, new computer threat" which has spread across the web.
It highlighted that a number of legitimate and popular websites have been infected with Trojan-carrying malware, designed to "hoover up" PINs, credit cards details and bank log-ins.
