The New Face of Cybercrime doc screened
A new film has been launched that could increase awareness of the growing threat presented to the world by online criminals.
The New Face of Cybercrime is a documentary which explores the effect online malicious activity such as phishing and the spread of viruses has on both consumers and companies.
Earlier this week, the film was privately screened in New York, the Wall Street & Technology blog reports.
In a discussion following the film, assembled experts agreed that it is vital users carefully review all applications before they use them, it adds.
According to Interpol, cybercrime is one of the world's fastest growing criminal sectors.
It reports that modern technology allows such people to quickly commit crimes conveniently and anonymously.
Criminal behaviour ranges from identity theft, data attacks and the distribution of illegal images of abuse, it warns.
Furthermore, a growing number of terrorists are able to use the internet to recruit and radicalise, Interpol adds.
