Study suggests global demand for internet security software
Many internet users are concerned about online security, with close to a third unsure of their safety when banking online, research has shown.
According to the latest Online Wellbeing survey by computer security provider F-Secure, some 31 per cent of internet users across eight countries do not feel completely secure when banking over the net.
In addition, an average of 54 per cent of web surfers said they were fairly or very confident of avoiding the online threats posed by phishing emails.
Meanwhile, some 54 per cent of internet users in the study, which included the UK, US, Canada, Germany, France and Italy, also said they did not feel their children were safe online.
Antti Reijonen, vice president of consumer business and marketing at the firm, said: "As the survey showed, parents simply do not know whether their children are safe or not."
However, more internet users appear to be purchasing internet security software to alleviate their fears.
Research conducted by F-Secure in December found that more than 90 per cent of people had security software installed on their computers.
