Students 'take the hacking nightshift'
Young Indians with computer skills are spending their nights finding faults in internet security and hacking websites, Times of India (TOI) reports.
Students are joining hackers' communities by night, sharing information and breaking into websites for financial gain, it is reported.
They may commit cyber crime or act as "ethical hackers" who report online security flaws instead of exploiting them.
Hacker communities operated from central Asia have a database containing thousands of subscribers to financial services, it was reported.
Ethical hacker Sunny Vaghela told ToI that there were cases in America of major multinational companies having their websites hacked, but the hackers could not be arrested because their servers were outside the country.
This week, Indian police arrested a student for allegedly purchasing electronic products including digital camera, laptop, printer and LCD TV using credit card details of cardholders around the world since April.
T Bharathwaj Purohit, 20, has been remanded in custody after appearing before magistrates on Tuesday.
He was arrested after a complaint from an eBay investigation officer.
