Spyware 'need not be malicious'
While spyware may pose a problem to an efficient system, it is not the same as malware, it has been noted.
A Trevors Blog post explains that, while malware is malicious, spyware - as the name suggests - is intended simply to collect information.
However, this does not mean that such software is not dangerous, the post observes.
"Spyware can be removed with the help of anti-spyware programs and safeguard the system from inadvertently giving out personal data," the article asserts.
Individuals are told to "remove any trace of spyware by running anti-spyware on your system regularly".
This can have additional benefits by freeing up the processor power that spyware programs otherwise tie up, the blog contends.
Anti-spyware software reviewer Daryl Moore recently told Tech Articles that spyware is "nothing short of a pain".
He noted that, along with poor application performance, spyware can result in pop-up windows appearing more frequently.
