Spyware 'comes in honey traps'
Spyware may be disguised as free gifts or useful utilities in an attempt to gain the user's consent for it to be installed, it has been suggested.
A post on the Free AdwareSpyware Removal blog explains that anything enticing may be an attempt to convince the user to initiate a download.
However, the resource notes that protection against adware and spyware is "very vital" for computers at the moment.
"Rogue spyware gets into our lives mainly because human nature is such that we easily get attracted to free things," the article asserts.
It adds: "Rogue spyware disguised as security software can cause havoc and great damage."
The post warns against following unexpected prompts indicating that the computer's performance has slowed and recommending a particular product as a solution.
A recent post on the MSBasic blog revealed that some malware is now imitating the Microsoft Windows Security Centre in an attempt to fool users into downloading malicious software.
