Spammers will keep on spamming until they stop making money
Internet users have a role to play when it comes to countering online threats that may arise from spamming, an internet security expert has said.
According to Carole Theriault, a senior security consultant, spammers will continue to send out their rogue emails as long as they keep on making money from internet users.
The Sophos security expert says the only way to put a stop to their activities is by cutting their lifeblood by adopting best internet security practices and having the relevant security software.
She said: "You want to make sure that your computer says that you have security patches and when the security patch box come up from Microsoft or whoever you are using, make sure that you listen to it and go and install your security patches.
"Make sure that you have anti-virus in place, make sure that you have a firewall turned on. Nothing's free. If it seems too good to be true then it probably is."
Earlier in the year, the global ratio of spam in email traffic was 76.8 per cent, according to MessageLabs.
