Spam levels rise to 85% in March
Internet users should keep an eye out for spammers during Easter, which is normally a busy time for them, according to an online security expert, who is warning of increased volume of the messages.
This has been stated by internet security firm MXLogic as it released its Threat Forecast and Report showing that spam levels continued to rise last month and occupied 84.8 per cent of all email traffic.
Spam messages rose by 34 per cent between February and March, the highest level since the McColo shutdown last year, with healthcare scams dominating the bulk of the messages.
Offers arriving in the form of etickets and fake invoices came in as the second most popular method to expose consumers to online threats including malware and viruses.
The US maintained its hold as the leading distributor of spam messages beating Brazil to the top spot followed by the Russian Federation, Ukraine and India.
Not responding to unsolicited messages and having proper internet security software is recommended for keeping threats from cyber crooks at bay.
