Software company hit by crooks in phishing attack
Cyber crooks reportedly used a software company's website to launch a phishing attack that left internet users being sent to a malicious page that requested their details.
The School Website Solutions online platform's internet security was compromised and hacked into, leaving people looking for the website being presented with a fake Alliance & Leicester site.
According to online security firm Trend Micro, "the phishing site spoofed the login page of Alliance & Leicester" and any information entered on the site was keylogged and stolen by cyber crooks.
The firm said in a blog posting that it had notified the School Website Solutions of the online threat "and the site administrators were able to swiftly respond and resolve the issue".
Strong passwords should be used and internet security software vulnerabilities "religiously" checked to prevent such incidents from happening, the company stated.
Recent research from moneysupermarket.com showed that British people have poor password security practices as some use just one password for all their online accounts.
