SMEs most at risk from viruses and malware
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the most at risk from malware and Trojan attacks, it has been claimed.
According to Viorel Canja, head of BitDefender Labs, many small firms do not have the right anti-virus software in place to prevent their networks from being infected.
"Businesses need to be aware of these new and dangerous methods of infection and install a complete up-to-date anti-malware security solution," said Viorel Canja.
He added that the Conficker worm is a recent example of the threat malware poses to businesses.
The malicious code has been spread to millions of computers using multiple infection vectors. It even copies itself to removable storage devices so computers can be infected when they are not connected to the internet.
Meanwhile, Panda Security has claimed that in the second quarter of 2009, 75 of all malware detected on the internet was distributed in the form of Trojans.
