Small websites 'unknowingly hosting malware'
A number of internet security companies have discovered a collection of websites that are hosting malware but do not know they are doing so.
Finjan, Secure Works and ScanSafe researchers have uncovered the web-virus attack, with some believing that the number of sites affected could total five figures, the BBC reports.
The portals in question are small web shops, and it is reported that the problem is on much more of a larger scale then other similar computer-based attacks.
Concern has been expressed for small businesses, as they will unwittingly infect the computers of those who click on their websites.
Philippe Courtot, head of security firm Qualys, told the BBC: "Small businesses do not have the money to protect themselves."
He also warned that small firms are increasingly being targeted by hackers.
Info World reported this week that businesses and consumers can expect similar internet crime in 2008 to what was seen in 2007, with more spam and more malware affecting the online world.
