Small businesses 'ignoring' online threat
Many small businesses adopt a "head-in-the-sand approach" to online security and crime issues, it has been claimed.
Speaking to VNUNET, David Rochdale, head of unit at the Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC), claimed that e-crime has been "easy to ignore" for many.
However, recent research has shown that the threat is still alive and well.
A report published by Symantec revealed that more than one in ten malware found in emails contained links to malicious sites in January.
This is an increase of 9.1 per cent compared to last month, with spam levels in the UK reaching 77.2 per cent this month.
The BCRC has produced a new e-Crime guide, published today (January 26th) in partnership with the Cyber Security Knowledge Transfer Network.
It will include case studies accompanied by advice on what companies can do to improve their online security.
"We are hoping that the case studies will really get the message out there," added Mr Stockdale.
The new report, E-Crime: What Your Business Needs to Know, is available through the BCRC website.
