Security solution competition launched by the UK government
Internet security vulnerabilities may be impacted upon by a new competition, which has been launched by the British government to find a solution to the growing problems hampering modern information systems.
Up to £6 million worth of funding is available for the Information Infrastructure Protection competition through the government's Technology Strategy Board (TSB).
According to Andrew Tyrer, innovation platform leader for network security at the TSB, technical developments have increasingly become complex which has left them with loopholes that can be exploited.
"One of the biggest issues we need to predict is where the weaknesses are across networks," he said.
"It's a tough task, so we're trying to bring in people of all disciplines, not just IT security professionals, to work collaboratively on this."
The competition, which is open to individuals as well as organisations and runs from March 16th to July 20th, is also supported by the Protection of National Infrastructure and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
