Security 'not an issue in cloud computing'

The threat of data and identity theft is not a huge concern for a large number of chief information officers (CIOs) considering migrating to a cloud computing data storage solution, it has been claimed.
According to managed hosting service provider Star, UK CIOs think cloud computing is safer than the majority of chief technical officers.
Star found that 44 per cent of business managers believe data is better protected from attacks by Trojans and viruses if it is stored in a specialist facility with its own security measures such as up to date anti-virus software.
Only 34 per cent though it would be safer to keep their data in house.
"We wanted to investigate this," said Martino Corbelli, the firm's marketing director.
He added: "We wanted to see whether there was still the belief that security was a major issue for companies."
Phil Mulkins, member of the Department of Homeland Security's Computer Emergency Readiness Team, said having up to date anti-virus software is essential.
