Security experts warn of impending Valentine's Day phishing attacks
Online fraudsters plan on taking advantage of Valentine's Day to launch a fresh wave of phishing and malware attacks, internet security experts have warned.
According to a number of online reports, such attacks have already started, with criminals attempting to catch victims off guard by sending them emails containing pictures of puppies or romantic messages.
Once the user clicks on any of the links contained in such emails, fraudsters are then able to spread infectious viruses, often managing to bypass anti-virus software, Virusbtn.com has reported.
This latest warning comes on the back of a number of recent, high-profile phishing cases.
In addition to attacks which aimed to make use of the public interest in the inauguration of new US president Barack Obama, fraudsters have also been latching onto public interest in developments in the Middle East conflict to send out waves of infected emails.
Meanwhile, online security experts have also warned that criminals are now shifting their attention to social networking sites, with the Aladdin Attack Intelligence Research Center pointing to the sheer amount of sensitive data often openly on display on such sites.
