Scamsters targeting older people
According to research by Age concern, three quarters of people in the UK are worried that their older relatives or friends could fall victim to a scam with nine out ten believing the risk is greater now than in previous years.
Vulnerable older people are particularly at risk with 65 per cent admitting they have seen an increase in the amount of scam letters and emails over the last two years, the research showed.
Scams expert Tony Levene, said: "Many people feel they could never be scammed, yet millions of people become victims. You stand practically no chance of getting your money back if you are scammed.
People of any age can fall victim to these cons, but unfortunately unscrupulous fraudsters often target older people," added Gordon Lishman of Age Concern.
According to Age concern, UK victims lose £3.5 billion annually to fraudsters.
