Scammers use get-rich-quick ruse on Facebook
Facebook users are being targeted by a new phishing scam disguised as a get-rich-quick scheme, reports say.
Members of the social networking site are receiving messages urging them to "get paid for posting links" apparently on behalf of Google and get rich in the process.
However, this is just the starting point to stealing victims' data, the Register reports.
People drawn in by the Facebook advertisement are taken to a webpage with a link titled "Google advertising", which leads to a site titled emillionaire.inc, according to internet security firm Trend Micro.
Here, potential victims are urged to enter their details to see if they qualify for the job and after that, a request to pay a small fee by credit card seals the deal but afterwards nothing is heard from the potential employers.
Commenting, Rik Ferguson of Trend Micro said this "calls into doubt the efficacy of Facebook's advertiser vetting procedure".
Crooks have been increasingly targeting social networking websites due to their growing popularity.
