Salma Hayek's details laid bare after email breach

Hollywood star Salma Hayek has become the latest celebrity to be put on the receiving end by cyber crooks, highlighting the need for stronger internet security measures such as strong passwords.

Ms Hayek's email account was hacked into and details of her private communications posted online, revealing that she too suffers from unwanted spam like many other consumers.

However, the online privacy breach also laid bare her lifestyle, highlighting that her billionaire French husband François-Henri Pinault is in charge of all her bills, which include designer garments.

The break-in also puts the spotlight on another matter, the need for stronger passwords that are not related to one's life.

Access to her MobileMe account was reportedly gained with the use of her date of birth and her secret question, which was apparently the name of her most famous film role - information that is readily available online.

Ms Hayek is one of many high-profile victims whose email accounts have been hacked into including former Republican presidential candidate Sarah Palin and UK justice secretary Jack Straw.
