Remote workers raise security risks
The demands being placed on remote workers, as companies look to set up employees at home or on the move, are presenting an increasingly high security threat, new research suggests.
As companies move to embrace flexible working patterns and encourage staff to work from home and maintain links with the office when out on the road, an array of IT applications designed to facilitate access to company networks and communication have emerged.
However, with nine in ten of those surveyed by AEP Networks saying there is a bigger risk of sensitive data being seen by unauthorised users, there are fears over possible privacy leaks, malicious content and hacking.
Reginald Best, chief operating officer of AEP Networks, explained: "On the one hand, IT is rightly under pressure to open the network door to partners, suppliers and customers to improve efficiency and enhance business processes.
"On the flip-side, they're sweating over how to prevent unauthorized access, protect company information and deflect malicious attacks."
IT departments are responding by implementing new technology and spending more on security with functions such as Secure Remote Access, Network Access Control and identity-based network security solutions being rolled out.
