Polyglot Trojan discovered on MSN Messenger
A Trojan which purports to be a message linking to photos on social networking sites has been discovered on MSN Messenger, according to reports.
The IRCBOT-RB Trojan appears as an email which appears to contain links to snaps of the author or the recipient on Facebook and MySpace.
The links are typically prefaced with the words "do I look dumb in this picture? I want to put it on myspace (sic)" or "Wanna see my pictures before I send 'em to facebook (sic)".
However, when recipients click on the link they are redirected to boobytrapped webites seeded with malware.
Machines which were vulnerable to attack are then infected by a bot agent that links them to a central control tower, the Register reports.
The malware's USP is that it appears to be a "polyglot" capable of changing the teaser messages according to the language of the affected operating system in question.
