Police dragnet leaves cyber scammers worried
Cyber hackers in India are reportedly suspending their online activity following increased efforts by authorities to bring their operations to an end, reports the Times of India.
A recent eBay related police bust in Ahmedabad led to the arrest of online fraudsters in Mumbai and Chennai. One of the fraudsters was only 16 years old.
And now, the newspaper says, the criminals are leaving warning messages on hacking websites urging the suspension of 'carding' activity until things cool down.
According to a security expert, "Carding in hackers' jargon stands for dealing in a huge database containing confidential information of credit card holders such as user name, expiry date
and address."
The data is normally under the watch of IT divisions and most of the time, the hackers access this information by breaking into the protected servers.
"They do it with utmost care and expertise," said Sunny Vaghela, the internet security expert.
One of the messages left by the criminals on the hacking websites advised the hackers "not to leave cyber footprints and clear up the record before logging out".
